STE-1 Stormwater Management

 

AIM

To encourage and recognise houses/sites that reduce stormwater run-off from buildings and hard surfaces, to mitigate flooding and pollution.


CREDIT CRITERIA

Site Stormwater: Up to 2 points are awarded where it can be demonstrated that either 75% or 90% of the site (not including area under roof) is: 

• Permeable
OR
• Designed to capture stormwater runoff for infiltration through permanent on site stormwater management systems e.g. vegetated swale, on site rain garden or storm water retention tanks.

Roof Stormwater: One point is awarded where the stormwater associated with the roof is effectively managed on site with either:
• A living roof
OR
• By vegetated swale, on site rain garden, or stormwater retention tanks.

how the Living House does

The Living House is targeting the full 3 points for stormwater in accordance with the LBC requirement that we deal with all of our own waste water on site. We are therefore installing 50,000L of rainwater tanks to collect the rainwater from the roof of the house as well as having a green roof on large portions of the main house and minor household unit. STE-2 Native Ecology

 

AIM

To encourage and recognise the ecological enhancement of a site through the planting of native species appropriate to that site.


CREDIT CRITERIA

Up to one and a half points are awarded where it can be demonstrated that 10%, 25% or 50% of the land area (not including area under roof) is vegetated with native species appropriate to that.

how the Living House does

The Living House is targeting the full 1.5 points for native ecology. We haven't finalised our landscaping plan at this time, but once we have selected our native plants, including our native grass (Selliera microphylla), then we will post these selections here. 

STE-3 On Site Food Production

 

AIM

To encourage and recognise the ecological enhancement of a site through the planting of native species appropriate to that site.


CREDIT CRITERIA

Up to one and a half points are awarded where it can be demonstrated that the following is met:

Vegetable Garden: 1m² of designated vegetable garden per bedroom.

Fruit Producing Trees and Vines: One food producing tree or vines per bedroom.

how the Living House does

The Living Building Challenge has much higher requirements for on site food production. Therefore by complying with that we are easily going to comply with the Homestar requirements. Please refer to the LBC Place page for more details.

STE-4 Site Selection

 

AIM

To encourage and recognise the building of dwellings on previously developed sites in areas that allow for walking, cycling and/or public transport thereby reducing dependency on private vehicles.


CREDIT CRITERIA

1) Located within 800 metres of four key amenities - 1.0 point
(2) Located within 800 metres of at least 1 public transport services terminal and transport services available every weekday. - 1.0 point
(3) A site that has previously experienced development - 1.0 point

STE-5 Common Area Facilities

 

AIM

To encourage and recognise the building of dwellings that enable residents to engage in a broad range of activities in common areas.


CREDIT CRITERIA

Only applicable for apartments

0.25 points, up to a maximum of 1 point, is awarded for each common area facility provided from the below list:
(a) Playground area
(b) Open landscaped areas for active play
(c) Sun shaded area
(d) Gym
(e) Seating
(f) Outdoor dining

We are not allowed to target these points as a standalone house.
